Social Anxiety
"Through bashfulness, suspicion, and timorousness, will not be seen abroad; loves darkness as life and cannot endure the light or to sit in lightsome places; his hat still in his eyes, he will neither see, nor be seen by his good will. He dare not come in company for fear he should be misused, disgraced, overshoot himself in gesture or speeches, or be sick; he thinks every man observes him."- Hippocrates.
One of the main social anxiety disorder characteristics is that social interactions makes the people who have this disorder feel anxious, shy, have rapid heartbeats, in the moment when the panic attaks they find hard to breathe, also they worry if somebody get offended by something they said. Social anxiety is usually treated with talk therapy and medication.
Social phobia in most cases appears in early ages, for example, in Taiwan the 7% of people who had this disorder were children from 4th to 11th grade. Women suffer more of this disorder than men. Students suffer of this disorder too, in Turkey the 9.6% of the university students have social phobia.
The impact that this disorder has in the work force is that the person who has it will avoid situations that makes them feel exposed, they'll avoid people, so is most likely that they wouldn't handle a interview to apply to a job, their relationship with their co-workers will be very distant (or some of them don't work).
Social phobia it also doesn't make them progress with their social life, they'll avoid having a converstion with someone if they are nervous of what the other person will say or how will they react, they'll find difficult to talk infront of a group of people, they fear of being judged by their acts, so for to feel more calm they try to stay away from interactions that other people can easily handle.
Of course it affects family too, the family members could feel guilty and worried of the member who has the illness and they may think that it was their fault that the member suffer from this anxiety disorder and that doesn't help their relationship.
